HOW TO PLAY

There should only be 4 players at sitting at the MahJong table.

Step 1: Each player rolls the dice and the player who gets the highest number is the East Wind and the dealer.

Step 2: The next highest number is the South wind, then the next highest number will be the West wind, and the lowest number is the North wind.

Step 3: The players should then sit counterclockwise from the East wind player.

Step 4: The players need to shuffle the tiles face down and then individually gather 36 tiles. The players need to set up a row of 18 tiles that is 2 tiles high.

Step 5: Next, push the 4 walls together to form a square in the middle of the table. The dealer will then roll the two dice in that middle square.

Step 6: "The number the dice turns up determines the breaking point of the wall. The dealer will count that number from the right end of the 19 stacks comprising the East wall and push the remaining left- hand side after the break and sets them face down, usually behind his or her wall." (Jennifer Sellers)

Step 7: Then, the players just need to follow suit and this pattern is repeated 2 or more times.

Step 8: When repeating this pattern, one round should include the dealer taking 2 more tiles while the other players individually take 1. In total, the dealer should have 14 tiles and each player should have 13 tiles.

Step 9: Each player needs to pass 3 tiles to their right, left and to the player's opposite. That specific play is called the Charleston. (an American play)

Step 10: Tiles can be collected and drawn as the game continues but the winner is determined when they have a total of 14 tiles. The 14 tiles need to consist of 2 tiles of the eyes, 3 tiles of pungs, 4 kong tiles or 5 tiles of quint.
