TIPS AND TECHNIQUES
AVOID SEPARATING YOUR 13 TILES - Grouping your tiles into Chows, Pungs, and Kongs will let all of your competitors know how close you are to winning. Keep your tiles in a line unless you deliberately decide to separate them in order to trick other players.
FOCUS ON FREE TILES - Focus on the face-up center tiles rather than unavailable tiles. These tiles are available to remove and match with your own hand. A very small portion of the 144 tiles will be accessible and convenient for the players.
MAKE A PLAN - Before getting too deep into the game play, make sure to create a strategy so that you can make useful moves from the beginning. Picking random tiles will not lead to victory in this game, especially when playing with other skilled competitors.
WATCH OTHERS - Keep an eye out for what tiles other players discard or pick up. This can give you a clue as to how many groups they have and what tiles make up those groups.
PAY ATTENTION AT THE END - As you near the end of the game, be very careful with which tiles you discard. One tip for this dilemma is to discard tiles that other players have already discarded.

REMEMBER: Practice is the best way to improve your skills in Mahjong. Play the game regularly and soon you will be able to find new strategies, predict others’ moves, and play with confidence.
